#10: 🎨 Visual thinking + patriarchy parenting
The world of work was not designed for working parents
Hi there! I’m Mike Tannenbaum, the human behind this letter. You are receiving this email because you subscribed to updates at https://refinedmind.co. The Refined Mind is a bi-weekly review of public notes and ideas in progress. If you were forwarded this email, grab your own!
Happy happy! Hi everyone.
Welcome to the 9 new people who clicked subscribe—I’m truly happy to have you here! This is one of the most enjoyable experiments I’ve done in a while and it’s been catching on with folks so for that I’m grateful.
I’ve been off my cadence due to workloads so let’s jump in and catch up:
While trying to figure out how to refine my digital ecosystem I started sketching things out in a new tool (the irony!) and decided that Whimsical is for visual thinking and now has a home in my toolkit. Check it out if you like pretty visuals like this:
And if you’re interested in further exploring how I think about these tools, here’s another one I made in Whimsical:
After dealing with some challenges of parenting an 8.5 month old in the middle of a pandemic while working full-time, I went on a Twitter rant about the patriarchy and turned it into a note on the site, linked below.
I also wrote up something that’s worked well with a current client of mine who’s trying to improve the way they work as a team: think in terms of inputs and outputs to design better processes. Perhaps this will help you, too, with how you think about your work.
And finally, I’ve been looking for something to help me organize the macro view of my life and work, and am experimenting with Notion as an organized workspace. So far it’s working out, but still in the early days.
Alrighty that’s our show, folks! Enjoy the links, checkout the changelog below, and send me a note with fun ideas (or challenges of my ideas) if you want.
Be well and stay safe.
‘Til next time!
